Hello From AutoDex: Meet the App Behind the Newsroom
Meet AutoDex, the car app that decodes warning lights, records strange noises, keeps your service records and builds a shareable vehicle history report.
By AutoDex Team, Newsroom · 2026-10-12

Hello from AutoDex. This is the first post on the AutoDex Newsroom, so we'll keep it simple: who we are, what AutoDex does and what you can expect to read here.
Who we are
AutoDex is a car app and website for the people who own, drive and look after vehicles. Our tagline sums up the goal: "Know your vehicle. No guessing."
The homepage puts it in two lines: "Know what's wrong. Know what's been done." When something feels off, you should be able to find out what it might be and how urgent it is. When you need the record, it should already be in one place.
Why we built it
The information about a vehicle tends to live in a lot of places. A receipt in the glovebox. An inspection sticker on the windshield. A warning light you half remember from the owner's manual. A seller's word about what was fixed and when.
AutoDex brings those pieces together. In our words, it offers "AI diagnostics, vehicle history, spend insights, and a digital logbook," so you can "scan receipts, decode warning lights, and keep every record in one place."
We also think the record should keep going after the paperwork is done. As the AutoDex site says: "A history report is the start. The phone app and the web app stay with the vehicle after the report is done."
What you can do in AutoDex
Here's what's in the app today:
- Decode a warning light. Pick the light you see from a grid, tap Check Urgency and get an urgency level with next steps. Tap Learn What This Means for an AI summary that takes your vehicle and its Logbook history into account. Our dashboard warning lights guide shows how the lookup works.
- Record a strange noise. Sound Diagnostics, now in beta, lets you record or upload a noise, tell the app where it's coming from and what the car is doing, and get a plain-language finding with next steps. Read our Sound Diagnostics walkthrough.
- Describe a symptom. You can also describe what's happening in your own words or photograph your tire tread. AutoDex "walks you through urgency, next steps, and cost."
- Keep a Logbook. Log fuel, oil changes, tire rotations, brake work, repairs, tolls and more. Scan a receipt or upload a photo, and AutoDex fills in details like the shop, cost, mileage and category so you only confirm them. You can import past records from receipts or CSV, XLSX and JSON files, then export a PDF summary, CSV spreadsheet or ZIP archive to share. Our guide to the AutoDex Logbook covers it step by step.
- Store key documents. The Document Vault keeps your insurance, registration, parking permit and title next to your service history.
- Get a Vehicle History Report. We call it "the report buyers, shops, and you can trust." That means ownership, accidents, warranties, inspections and live market value in one shareable Vehicle History Report. Here's what's inside the report.
- See where the money goes. Track repairs, fuel and maintenance over time, with spend and health trends, recall alerts for your VIN and news for your exact vehicle.
Made for every kind of driver
AutoDex works with cars, EVs, motorcycles, boats, RVs, ATVs, fleets and more. That makes it useful whether you have one daily driver or a lot full of work vans:
- Everyday owners can check whether a light or noise is urgent and keep receipts out of the glovebox.
- Enthusiasts can log every fluid change and DIY job, with receipt photos kept alongside the data.
- Fleet managers can manage multiple vehicles and export CSV files to compare maintenance spend.
AutoDex is available on the App Store and Google Play, and on the web at autodexapp.com. The free plan lets you add a vehicle, keep a logbook and try diagnostics. Pro adds unlimited AI diagnostics, included history reports and Advanced Insights.
Your records stay in your AutoDex account. You can export them or delete your data, and we do not sell your vehicle history.
What the newsroom will cover
This newsroom is where we'll explain how cars work, how to look after them and how AutoDex fits in. Stories will fall into five categories:
- News: product updates, recalls and what changed this week on the road.
- Driver Intelligence: how to read the signals a car is already giving you.
- Ownership: records, resale and the paperwork that protects the asset.
- Vehicle Maintenance: intervals, fluids and the jobs that keep a car honest.
- Automotive AI: how artificial intelligence is changing the way cars are diagnosed, maintained and understood.
We've already started. If you're new here, these are good places to begin:
- Check Engine Light: What Steady vs. Flashing Means and What to Do
- Dashboard Warning Lights: What Each Color Means and What to Do
- AutoDex Sound Diagnostics: Record a Car Noise, Get a Read
- AutoDex Vehicle History Report: What's Inside and How to Use It
- How to Keep Every Service Record With the AutoDex Logbook
A note on safety
AutoDex is built to help you understand what your vehicle may be telling you, so you can decide how quickly to act and what to tell the shop. It isn't a replacement for the shop. Our guidance is based on your vehicle, but it is not a substitute for a licensed mechanic.
For repairs, see a qualified mechanic. If a red warning light comes on, the check engine light flashes, the brakes grind or the engine knocks, stop driving when it's safe and get professional help.
Glad you're here
Thanks for reading our first post. Whether you're chasing down a new rattle, getting ready to sell or keeping a fleet on schedule, we want AutoDex to be the place where you know your vehicle, with no guessing.
